Melton Shire Council has awarded the Gourlay Road Duplication contract to BMD Constructions Pty Ltd.
The works, scheduled to commence in early 2012, will see the duplication of Gourlay Road between Hume Drive and Taylors Road, Taylors Hill.
Mayor of Melton Shire Council, Cr Justin Mammarella JP, said it was important to develop infrastructure that kept up with the demands of the Shire’s growing population.
“Our community is the second fastest growing in the Commonwealth of Australia, and as such, Council needs to be proactive in ensuring that its assets are built, maintained and upgraded appropriately,” the Mayor said.
“Gourlay Road is a major arterial in the Shire’s eastern growth corridor and these duplication works will ease traffic congestion and carriageway deterioration in the area.”
The newly awarded works will complete the duplication of Gourlay Road. Stage 1 of the duplication works was completed in 2008 and stage 2 was completed in 2011.
A further two contracts were awarded to BMD Constructions relating to the construction of turning lanes on Calder Park Drive into Morton Homestead and the Taylors Hill Youth Facility, Taylors Hill, and the construction of Tullidge Street (between Lakewood Boulevard and Williams Street) in Melton.
