Melton Shire Council and Djerriwarrh Health Services will launch the Backdoor Program operating at Council’s Youth Services Facility today, Thursday 1 September.
The Backdoor Program is a youth focussed health program, which has been running successfully in the Melton Shire community for more than 15 years.
The Backdoor Program recently moved to the Melton Shire Council Youth Services Facility following consultation with local young people, schools and service providers.
Melton Shire Council Mayor, Cr Justin Mammarella JP, welcomed the move to the Youth Services Facility.
“Melton Shire Council is committed to improving health and wellbeing for our diverse community and we are very supportive of this program, which aims to empower young people to make their health a priority.
“The move to Council’s Youth Services Facility in Melton means that youth can now access health care, including mental health services, in a youth-friendly setting.”
Council has allocated space for the Backdoor Program at the Youth Services Facility, which will serve to increase access and awareness of the program for young people.
The overarching aim of the Backdoor Program is to facilitate access to medical care for local young people. The core team comprises of a youth friendly doctor, a community health nurse and a counsellor.
For more information about the program contact the Djerriwarrh Health Services duty counsellor on 8746 1100.
